The Host program is a "befriending" program. It helps newcomers and their families adjust to life in Canada by matching them with host volunteers who will help them to learn about Canadian values and traditions, and how we go about our daily lives.
The Host Program recruits and trains host volunteers, and establishes compatible matches between them and newcomers. The matches are based on criteria such as age, interests, occupation, etc. The matched newcomer and host volunteer meet or make contact weekly over a four month period. The host volunteer helps the newcomer with language barriers and shows the newcomer different facets of Canadian life.
Once you register in our Host Program, you will get chance to join our group activities as well, such as English Conversation Café, Tours and Field Trips, Networking Sessions, etc.
Who can participate?
This is a program for you if you are a newcomer who would like to expand your social network, practice your oral English and learn more about Canadian culture and the local community.
This is a program for you if you are a settled resident who would like to share time and friendship with newcomers and help them participate in the community.
MicroSkills also delivers a Youth Host Program, specially for youth 13 to 24 years of age.
