Youth Host Program

The Host program is a "befriending" program. It helps newcomer youth who are 13 to 24 years of age to adjust to life in Canada by matching them with host volunteers.

The Host Program recruits and trains youth host volunteers, and matches youth volunteers to youth who are recent arrivals in Canada. The matches are based on age and interests. The young volunteer helps the newcomer to learn about Canadian life, adjust to their new school, and practice their English.

Once you register in our Host Program, you will get a chance to join our group activities as well, such as Social Recreation Programs, English Conversation Café, Tours and Field Trips, and other activities that you might suggest.

Who can participate?

This is a program for you if you are a newcomer youth who would like to meet new friends, learn about life in Canada, practice your English and have fun with other youth.

This is a program for you if you are a young resident who is settled in Canada, and you would like to share time and friendship with newcomer youth, and help them participate in the community.

MicroSkills Youth HOST program works in partnership with our Youth SETTLEMENT Program, which provides information and referrals to community services to orient youth to their new environment. These services are provided by a settlement counselor.

MicroSkills also delivers a HOST program for adult newcomers and their families.
